MEN IN SERVICE TO THE NEXT GENERATION COMING THROUGH

Rites of Passage are about the stages of life. They are the practical and everyday events and occurrences that one embraces as a part of life’s cycles and beyond.

In the old cultures these transitions, changes and stages are ritualised (recognised) and a time is made to notice their happening.

For an individual this could be a ‘Rite of Passage’, which may happen in the blink of an eye or in stages over a lifetime.

In the Tsutajil Mayan Indian culture there were five stages:
.

Birth

Boys/girls

Young Men/Women

Mature People

Old People

The children are the flowers, the seeds

The children become leaves and twigs

The Branches

The Stems, The Trunk

The Bark, The Roots in the Ground
(Crones, Elders)

They believed that one is born knowing everything but spends a lifetime re-membering the stories, legends and wisdom of that culture. Similar ideas on life’s transitions and stages can be found in all cultures around the world.

TRACKS Child Protection and Duty of Care Policy

The legal definition of a child is someone under the age of 17. All adult participants (anyone 17 and older) at a TRACKS event have an implied and explicit 'Duty of Care' for the child participants. The physical, emotional, sexual safety and protection of children under our care is of utmost importance.

What this means in practice is that all behaviors that result in physical, emotional or sexual harm are banned from TRACKS events. This includes, but is not limited to, bullying, shaming, intimidation, teasing, name calling, inappropriate touching or other inappropriate sexual activity such as exhibitionism, voyeurism, suggestive behavior or comments, either by individuals of groups.

It also means that if a child reveals that he is subject to serious abuse outside the event, at school or home for example, TRACKS Facilitators, Trustees and Directors have a 'Duty of Care' to take appropriate action which could include notifying medical, social, school, or law enforcement agencies.

All adult TRACKS staff are subject to, and must pass, a Police Check through the Office of Police commissioner, Wellington. Adult participants may, at the discretion of the Director, have their names submitted for a Police Check.
